Day 3 Options
Concord-Lexington-Lowell
On the agenda today is a visit to Lexington Green, site of the first
skirmish in our American Revolution.
Then it’s on to
Concord
and the
Old
North
Bridge
where, in the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, “the short was fired heard
round the world”. We’ll follow the
route of the Minutemen driving along
Battle Road,
passing the homes of literary greats Louisa May Alcott, Nathaniel
Hawthorne, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and Henry David Thoreau.
Following lunch we switch gears and fast forward 50 years to 1820 with a
visit to
Lowell,
the first planned industrial city in
America,
and a visit to the
National
Textile
Museum.
The story of our American Industrial Revolution is told through
fascinating displays that will take you on a journey of
America
during the 1820’s. Dinner will
follow this unique and enjoyable experience.
Salem
-
Gloucester
- Rockport
Today we head north to the Town of Salem and a visit to the Salem Witch
Museum where you will learn the sad history of this town made famous in
1692 for the hanging of nearly 100 innocent citizens wrongly accused of
witch craft. The town is also rich
in maritime, architectural and literary history and we will explore those
aspects of this seaside community as well with a guided tour through
Nathaniel Hawthorne’s “House of the Seven Gables”.
Then it’s on to the well-known fishing community of
Gloucester
and the picturesque artist town of
Rockport
where you will have time to stroll the quaint streets and explore the many
shops and art galleries that line the town wharf.
Plymouth & Sandwich
Today we will visit
Plymouth
for a guided tour of “America’s
Hometown”. You’ll see
“Mayflower II”, “Plymouth Rock”, and “Forefathers
National Monument”.
Next, we cross over the
Cape Cod Canal
for a visit to
Sandwich,
Cape Cod’s
oldest town. This quaint and
picturesque village is famous for “Sandwich Glass “.
During our stay, we will visit the “Sandwich
Glass
Museum”
to see a collection of this beautiful glassware and a glass blowing
demonstration.

Coastal
Maine
with Traditional Lobster Bake
We’re off for a full day of exploring the “rock bound coast of
Maine”.
We begin with a visit to the seaside community of
Kennebunkport.
You’ll see former President George Bush’s summer home on “Walker
Point” and have time to stroll the quaint waterfront, browse in unique
gift shops, and enjoying a relaxing lunch by the sea (on own).
We’ll drive the coastal route passing through charming towns with white
church steeples and the gracious homes of ship captains that surround each
town’s common. Along our route we
will see lighthouses that have been warning mariners of danger in the
1700’s. You’ll have time for some bargain outlet shopping before a
Traditional Lobster Bake (alternative choice available).

This morning we will travel through scenic neighboring
New Hampshire
to
Canterbury
Shaker
Village
where we will enjoy a guided tour to learn about the lifestyle and times
of members of this respected sect that was popular during the 1800’s.
We’ll board the historic M/S Mt. Washington for a cruise on
Lake Winnipesaukee,
the largest lake in
New England,
and surrounded by spectacular views of The White Mountains
